Static Load Test at the Second Penang Bridge

A technical trip was conducted on 22 April 2013 to the Second Penang Bridge in conjuction with the static load test done at site. A brief introduction on the project and static load test was given by the engineer from Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd, Mr. Mohd. Azrulfitri Mohd. Yusof, to the team from the School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia consisting of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taksiah A. Majid, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Megat Azmi Megat Johari, Dr. Norazura Mohamad Bunnori, Dr. Fadzli Mohamed Nazri and Dr. Lau Tze Liang. Three load cases was imposed at specific location on the selected span during a-week testing. Strain gauges were attached on the inner sides of the segmental box girder. The response of bridge girder under the applied load was observed.
