LATARBELAKANG
Background

 

Rancangan Kejuruteraan Struktur di Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Awam dianggotai oleh enam tenaga akademik yang berpengalaman dan pakar dalam bidang analisis struktur, rekabentuk dan bahan kejuruteraan termaju. Rancangan ini bergiat aktif dalam pendidikan pelajar, penyelidikan, penganjuran persidangan, seminar dan kursus pendek serta menjalankan kerja perundingan.

The Structural Engineering Program in the School of Civil Engineering currently has six academic staff in the area of Structural Analysis, Structural Design and Advanced Engineering Materials. The Group is actively involved in undergraduate education,  research, organising conferences, conducting seminar and short courses as well as providing consultancy services.

Concrete Technology : lightweight aggregate concrete ; the use of mineral admixtures in concrete ; high strength and high performance concrete ; effect of environmental exposure on durability and performance of concrete ; polymer modified concrete

 

Construction Management : buildibility Index in Construction Industry

 

 

Concrete Repair materials and techniques : performance of concrete repair materials and techniques; the use of electrochemical techniques in preventing rebar corrosion such cathodic protection, realkalization and chloride extraction.

 

Wind Engineering : wind profile ; wind data validation ; continuous development of MS1533 ; 2002 “ Code of Practice on Wind Loading for Building Structure”

 

Earthquake Engineering : seismic hazard in Peninsular Malaysia; response spectrum of force; inelastic damage analysis

 

Masonry Engineering : study on deformation of fired-clay brickwork ; creep ; modulus elasticity ; shrinkage ; moisture expansion

 

Timber Engineering : study on creep and moisture movement of Malaysian Timber for Structural Application ; continuous development of MS544  : 2001 “Code of  Practice use of Timber “

 

 

Tensioned Structures : study on material and structural behaviour of pre-stressed cable structures and tensioned fabric structures; study on the possibility of using natural fibers as material for tensioned fabric structures

 

 

 

Shell & Spatial Structures : analytical and experimental study of mechanics of lightweight shell and spatial structures ; investigation of new structural system ; study of shapes ( esp. shapes in nature) for possible application to shell and spatial structures

  • EAS566 Brick Arch and Cable Net Structure Project ( Semester II, 2002-2003 )

As part of the syllabus of EAS566 – Special Structures (MSc Coursework mode) , students registering for this subject need to build a model of arch structure using bricks and a cable net structure using steel strands.   The purpose of this project is to let student gain familiarization with an important aspect of shell & spatial structure, i.e. curvature, which is essential for the stabilization and rigidity of shell & spatial structures.   Apart from that, the project is also aimed at providing students with some important practical aspects of constructing arch and cable net structure, two examples of shell & spatial structures.     Understanding of students are judged by a report which must be submitted.
