MacAdam
John MacAdam was born in Ayr on September 21, 1756. In 1783 MacAdam started experimenting with a new method of road construction.

Rankine
William John Maquorn Rankine is a name engraved in scientific annals throughout the world. Rankine is best known for his accomplishments in thermodynamics (description of the operational cycle of an ideal engine using steam or another vapor) and soil mechanics (earth pressure theory).

Telford
Thomas Telford, the son of a shepherd, was born in Westerkirk, Scotland in 1757. At the age of 14 he was apprenticed to a stonemason. He worked for a time in Edinburgh and in 1792 he moved to London where he was involved in building additions to Somerset House. Two years later he found work at Portsmouth dockyard.

Terzaghi
Karl Von Terzaghi born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1883. After graduating from an Austrian technical college, he practiced engineering in Vienna; in 1916 he went to Istanbul to teach and in 1918 joined the faculty of Robert College there.

Al-Idrisi
Al-Idrisi was born Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Ibn Idris Ash-Sharif in 1099 C.E. Also known by his abbreviated name Al-Sharif Al-Idrisi al-Qurtubi, he was educated at Cordova and became a cartographer and geographer of major significance during the medieval period. Indeed, many scholars regard him as the greatest geographer and cartographer of the Middle Ages.

Timoshenko
In connection with the Quebec Bridge disaster in Canada Stephen P. Timoshenko started working on the theory of stability of composite beams and found simpler methods of solving problems. In 1908, in addition to teaching duties, Timoshenko was given administrative responsibility which interested him little.

Manning
Robert Manning (1816-1897) wrote his first paper on hydraulics in 1851 and his last in 1895. During this period, Manning devoted considerable effort to the development of a simple, dimensionally homogeneous formula for open-channel flow.

Structural Engineering
Structural Engineering centers about the conception, design and construction of structural systems that are needed in support of human activities.

Environmental Engineering
Environmental Engineering is essential for development of facilities for protection of the environment and for proper management of natural resources.

Geomatics
Geomatics is the modern scientific term referring to the integrated approach of measurement, analysis, management, storage and display of the descriptions and location of Earth-based data, often termed spatial data. These data come from many sources, including earth orbiting satellites, air and sea-borne sensors and ground based instruments.

Geotechnical Engineering
Synonymous to the notion of stability, geotechnical engineering has always been regarded as the discipline, which ensures that the ground is stable and safe for construction of super-structures and embankments.

Bioecods
Rapid development needs a new paradigm in the context of preparing the urban drainage system in Malaysia. This could be achieved with the implimentation of Manual Saliran Mesra Alam (MSMA). MSMA provides guidelines in controlling the quantity and quality of stormwater as the main agenda for drainage system in urbanised areas.

Twin Towers
The 88-storey PETRONAS Twin Towers was developed as an integral part of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) project. Costing a whopping US$1.2bn and uniquely designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates [U.S] in association with KLCC architects and engineers.

Pyramid of Giza
Contrary to the common belief, only the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), not all three Great Pyramids, is on top of the list of Wonders

Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal as one of the seven wonders of the world was constructed in 1631 and completed in 22 years.

Transportation Engineering
Transportation Engineering is a relatively new subject under the field of Civil Engineering, and covers aspects of the highway engineering, traffic engineering, transportation and travelling in general.

Channel Tunnel
Channel Tunnel is one of the Europe's biggest infrastructure projects to date. The $15 billion Channel Tunnel makes the old dream of a ground link between Great Britain and continental Europe a reality for the first time since the Ice Ages.

Water Resources Engineering
Water Resources Engineering covers a broad spectrum, but is primarily concerned with the study of selected topics in applied hydrology, hydraulics, applied limnology, water resources systems analysis, water resources, environmental impact assessment, hydraulic structures, irrigation and drainage.

Membrane Structures
This is a kind of structures where very thin ( 0.5-1mm) coated fabric in tension forms an integral part of the structures. They are also called tensioned fabric structures.

KL Tower
Kuala Lumpur Tower, the nation's spectacular tower, was designed by the local firm of Kumpulan Senireka Sdn. Bhd. and constructed by Wayss & Freytag to provide the nation with a telecommunications and broadcasting tower.

Reinforced Soil
The concept of earth reinforcement is not new, the basic principles are demonstrated abundantly in nature by animals and birds and the action of the roots.

Tall Building
Ancient tall structures such as the pyramids of Giza in Egypt, Mayan temples in Tikal, Guatemala and the Kutab Minar in India are just a few examples testifying to the human aspiration to build increasingly tall structures.

Floating Structures
The concept of floating structures is not new. Structures such as pontoon bridges, ferries and oil platforms are some example of classical floating structures.

Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering is the oldest branch of engineering centers about the provision of various aspects of human needs. It can be broadly classified into two engineering fields; structural engineering and infrastructure & service engineering.

Tatara Bridge
The Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Project, consisting of three routes linking two main islands, Honshu and Shikoku, across the Seto Inland Sea, is a big project aimed to form the trunk road and railway network in Japan.

Great Mosque
The Great Mosque in Makkah is the most sacred places in Islam in addition to the Holy Mosque in Jerusalem. The Holy Mosque in Makkah houses the Ka'ba,, which Allah commanded Prophet Abraham and his son, Ishmael to build four thousand year ago.
