Dr. Zul Fahmi Bin Mohamed Jaafar, a lecturer in Highway and Transportation Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia had made the school proud by being awarded both Best Paper Award and Best Presenter Award at the 4th International Conference on Rebuilding Places (ICRP 2019). The ICRP 2019 was successfully held at Bayview Hotel, Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia on the 6th and 7th November 2019.

The research paper entitled “Pavement Roughness Modeling using Regression and ANN Methods for LTPP Western Region” was presented on 7th November 2019. The study aimed to develop the enhanced and simplified asphalt pavement roughness condition deterioration prediction equations based on the existing Mechanistic Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG). The multiple linear regression and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approaches were evaluated for the data sets collected in the United States, and the results were shared with the audience during the presentation. Dr Zul Fahmi highlighted the importance of developing the predictive equations that are reasonable and practical for other research implementations. Additionally, Dr, Zul Fahmi also shared his thought on the possibility of conducting similar research in Malaysia, which has typical tropical climate. Finally, Dr. Zul Fahmi appreciates full support provided by School of Civil Engineering, USM, Penang.

School of Civil Engineering would like to congratulate Dr. Zul Fahmi Bin Mohamed Jaafar on his achievements.
