Two groups of second year civil engineering students competed and scored in the top half at the NTU Bridge Design Competition 2018.
This annual bridge design competition was organized by Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Club at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on March 10-11, 2018. The competition with a theme of “Sustainable Bridge Design” emphasizes on challenging students in structural design and engineering sense.

Each team consisting of two members was required to design and construct a 3D bridge model within six hours, following certain requirements and using provided materials (balsa wood, bass wood and adhesive). The bridge model was then assessed through load testing, presentation, aesthetic assessment and economical & sustainability assessment. A total of 49 teams from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia took part in both Polytechnic and University Categories.

Team “MesoGarrison” comprising Lee Jian Yee and Chan Zheng Ruii ranked 6th from 24 university teams. Their model weighed 21.8 grams and sustained a load of 235.3 N. The other team “Horizon Sun” comprising Richard Ng Eng Yao and Lew Kah Wei finished in 12th place overall with the model weight of 18.3 grams and supported load of 162.5 N.

This is the first time for PPKA student to participate in this international competition. The competition has motivated students in applying their fundamental knowledge of science and engineering principles to the solution of complex engineering problems. PPKA is proud of the achievement of both teams. Congratulations to all competitors on their success!
